Task Angels would like to congratulate our dear friend and client Howard Byrne, who has just celebrated his 100th birthday. Known as HB, he still lives independently in Birdham, where friends and family joined him on Friday to mark the occasion. Originally from Canada, HB met his wife in Budapest during WWII, and they later settled in England, where they raised their family and have lived ever since. A photojournalist by profession, Mr. Byrne has published many works of non fiction, including a book on freelance journalism. He has 3 children and 4 grandchildren, all of which were with him on his birthday. HB was proud to receive birthday wishes from Queen Elizabeth, the Secretary of the US Army, and the head of the Department of Work and Pensions, as well as dozens of family and friends. Congratulations, HB!

For the last 20 years, she has been sailing on board various yachts from 120 year old classic gaffers to carbon fibre canting keel racing yachts. A qualified Yachtmaster Ocean, Georgie has sailed over 50,000 miles, including 5 transatlantic deliveries.
When on land, Georgie is also a keen horse rider. She has owned her own horses over the years but now enjoys riding at local yards when ever possible. She also has a very excitable 7 month old border collie called Tilly.

Sarah is our little Angel from across the pond…our American super Angel! She has been a fantastic asset to the team from the day she joined, no task has been too small or too large.
Sarah attended Northeastern University in Boston, where she studied Music and Business, concentrating in concert production. Since graduating, she has sailed over 6,000 offshore miles and visited over 20 countries. She has held jobs in the Caribbean, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and most recently joined us here in the UK (where she plans on staying, for once!). Highlights of her 4 years of travel include sipping rose on the beach in St. Barth, summiting mountains in New Zealand, staying with a former headhunting tribe in the jungle of Borneo, and skiing the backcountry of the Pacific Northwest. Sarah’s travels have taught her the value of improvisation, making things happen with little time and materials, and the universal value of simply working hard.

Sarah arrived in England this April, and is looking forward to being part of the growing business that is Task Angels. Her current life goal is to see all 7 continents by age 30 – 5 down, 2 to go!

Technology has finally enabled you to work from home, but the lines become blurred when office and nursery are separated by only a wall. Access to your kids is invaluable, but the distractions are hard to overcome and require discipline (for the kids and yourself). You are a father, managing two businesses and children out of your home in Chichester. Your office has become a dumping ground: paperwork from the old business mixed in with the new. Scattered throughout the office are dolls, finger paintings, and toy cars underfoot. The challenges of separating work from life are exaggerated by a lack of organisation. You reach for your stapler and get a rubber ducky; rummaging for a new client’s business card, you only find our own cards from a business you are trying to phase out. You need a system.
Enter: Business Angels.
With your instructions, your Angel starts de-cluttering. You want your new business paperwork moved to the more accessible filing cabinets. The outgoing business papers should be sorted, unnecessary files shredded and client details stored out of the way. A system should be created to manage stock (not a pile on the floor), and all non-work items (e.g. kids art supplies) should be relegated back to the playroom. Your Task Angel does it all, empties out the office and removes the cobwebs, then puts things back deliberately, or moves them to a new home outside the office. The Angel checks in occasionally, asking, “keep this, or bin it?” Eventually, the toys are in the play room, the desk is visible, the stationary is tucked away in a bottom drawer, and an logical system of organisation is in place. Order is restored. The new business is easiest to reach in the filing cabinet, and everything is labeled. The office is now an office again, and you can work more effectively with everything in its proper place.

Your house is full of things you never use: those awful shoes Aunty Liz bought you, still in the box; a pile of Playstation games the kids never play; that pair of skis that never got used last winter. It’s a waste of space to you, but perfectly usable if someone would take it off your hands. There’s no better time for a clear-out, and if you want cash for those things that shouldn’t go to the tip, Task Angels can sell them for you on eBay! We’ve sold a range of items for clients, and our office is filled with random bits and pieces, like cashmere sweaters, yoga mats, anatomy posters, recording equipment, wireless routers, Denby tableware, and even the occasional boat (well, not INSIDE our office). Not just any junk can fetch money on eBay, but our well-trained eyes can tell which of your items will start a bidding war and which are better suited for the car boot sale (we’ll do that for you, too). All you have to do is hand it over and we do all the photographing, listing, communicating with bidders, and shipping, then hand you a cheque at the end! What’s more satisfying then clearing out your attic, AND getting some cash in return? Simply drop off your things, or give us a call and we can arrange collection. Daunted by the clutter clearing process & working out what to keep, sell or throw out? Then we can help with that too!

Our Chief Angel, Christina Bassadone, founded Task Angels with the aim of freeing up people’s precious time. In today’s world, people are seeking to achieve a better work/life balance; they want to spend more time on the important things, be it family, work or play, and less time on the mundane tasks…which is where Task Angels comes in.

Christina graduated from Southampton University in 2005 with a BSc in Management Sciences. For the past eight years she has grown and managed her own property portfolio, CB Properties. From 2001-2008 Christina was also sailing and competing for Great Britain, the world’s best sailing nation. She competed in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games and the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, racing in the double handed 470 class. She has won gold, silver & bronze medals at world championships, and held the world number one title for over a year.

Christina is friendly, personable, extremely hard working and committed to any task she takes on. Her greatest assets are her enthusiasm, ambition and smile. A random fact is that she hates swimming in the sea when she can’t see the bottom…a little strange for a sailor, but she says it makes her keep the boat upright and sailing fast!

Many of our clients are retirees living alone who just can’t keep up with the housework. They want their house kept to a high standard, but chores aren’t easy to accomplish anymore. This week, one of our clients in Petworth put together a work list that her arthritic hands couldn’t quite manage: mending upholstery, replacing cushion covers and curtains, fitting new blinds in the kitchen, cleaning the carpet, polishing brass, and organizing her garden shed. One of our Angels, Katie, came to the house first thing with a car full of supplies and set on the task list. The armchair was patched with some spare fabric cut from the bottom of the seat. Katie took her sewing machine and beautiful Thai silk she sourced to match the existing cushions and curtains. The kitchen blinds were stuck down, and Katie found that a simple fix saved the existing blinds (and the cost of new ones). The client’s home is filled with furnishings from her travels to India, and many of the fittings needed polishing, so some elbow grease and Brasso brightened them up. A few stains in the carpet were sorted with the help of a steam cleaner. In the garden, an overflowing shed was cleaned and tidied so the client could access her patio furniture and garden tools without stumbling over tarpaulins. Not only did the client’s task list get accomplished beyond her expectations, but a woman who normally spends her days alone had some company and conversation throughout the day.
