Office De-cluttering
Technology has finally enabled you to work from home, but the lines become blurred when office and nursery are separated by only a wall. Access to your kids is invaluable, but the distractions are hard to overcome and require discipline (for the kids and yourself). You are a father, managing two businesses and children out of your home in Chichester. Your office has become a dumping ground: paperwork from the old business mixed in with the new. Scattered throughout the office are dolls, finger paintings, and toy cars underfoot. The challenges of separating work from life are exaggerated by a lack of organisation. You reach for your stapler and get a rubber ducky; rummaging for a new client’s business card, you only find our own cards from a business you are trying to phase out. You need a system.
Enter: Business Angels.
With your instructions, your Angel starts de-cluttering. You want your new business paperwork moved to the more accessible filing cabinets. The outgoing business papers should be sorted, unnecessary files shredded and client details stored out of the way. A system should be created to manage stock (not a pile on the floor), and all non-work items (e.g. kids art supplies) should be relegated back to the playroom. Your Task Angel does it all, empties out the office and removes the cobwebs, then puts things back deliberately, or moves them to a new home outside the office. The Angel checks in occasionally, asking, “keep this, or bin it?” Eventually, the toys are in the play room, the desk is visible, the stationary is tucked away in a bottom drawer, and an logical system of organisation is in place. Order is restored. The new business is easiest to reach in the filing cabinet, and everything is labeled. The office is now an office again, and you can work more effectively with everything in its proper place.
